EARTH MONTH: A REFLECTION
Each year at the beginning of April, I find myself reflecting on my life and one of its most important milestones.
Earth Month marks the 6th anniversary of my victory over a life-threatening brain tumor. On April 22, 2009 I awoke from a successful surgery with a new lease on life and the passion to share my story.
My doctors told me my tumor was most likely caused by environmental toxins and could have been the result of something as simple as applying the same skincare product day in and day out. After all, your skin is your largest organ and can absorb up to 60% of what you put on it. This was the most difficult part of the diagnosis for me to understand – up until then, I thought I was living a healthy life!
It was truly a wakeup call for me to realize that my own choices could have been the cause of my health complications. Since that day, it has been my passion to share this huge revelation: That what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it.
For me, Earth Month isn’t just about what’s good for the planet; it’s also about what’s good for the mind, body, and soul. I hope that during this month, you not only choose to do things to better the environment, but also your own well-being through educated and healthful lifestyle choices.
